Few apothecaries or pharmacists settled in the South of Tenerife before the beginning of the 20th century and even fewer were born in this large sector of the island's geography. In the 18th century, to practice as an apothecary, the interested party had to study some of the existing books on the art of pharmacy for apothecaries and then take an exam before masters of said profession; Furthermore, before receiving the necessary license and mandatory title, he had to justify his purity of blood and having practiced for four years with another approved and established apothecary.
Don Cristóbal Martín de Castro, son and grandson of soldiers, was predestined to be a clergyman, so he requested and obtained a chaplaincy, but then he chose to be an apothecary and established himself as Email Marketing List such in the city of La Laguna, where he married and left illustrious descendants. He was the first apothecary born in the South of Tenerife, according to the data we currently have. His first-born son, Don Francisco Martín de Castro, was a cultured priest and renowned poet; the second, Don Pedro Martín de Castro, did not go beyond being a tonsured clergyman due to his premature death; and the third, Don Antonio de Castro y Peraza, followed his father's tradition and was a certified pharmacist from his hometown.
He was born in Güímar on October 21, 1739, the son of Ensign Don José Martín de Castro and Doña Inés Díaz Alonso. Five days later he was baptized in the church of San Pedro Apóstol by the beneficiary Don Domingo de Paes y Galdona; He was named “Xristóbal Domingo” and the priest Don Cristóbal Alonso Núñez, maternal uncle and resident of the same town, acted as godfather…
